In IVF embryo transfer, there are few effective ways to assess implantation receptivity in advance, placing a significant economic and physical burden on patients. BIA-UR is a medical device that TSS Healthcare is prototyping and developing as a measurement device, building on foundational research conducted by Osaka University. By offering a new perspective that complements conventional indicators such as blood hormone levels and ultrasound imaging, it aims to support the judgment of optimal embryo transfer timing and help reduce the burden associated with fertility treatment.

The Challenge

Demand for assisted reproductive technology (ART) is expanding worldwide. The global IVF market was valued at roughly USD 32 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow at an annual rate of 8–9%, reaching approximately USD 68 billion by 2034. In the United States alone, more than 430,000 ART treatment cycles are performed each year, accounting for about 2.6% of all births. In Japan, 561,664 IVF treatment cycles were performed in 2023 — a record high — with roughly one in 8.5 births now resulting from assisted reproductive technology. Even so, the live-birth rate per treatment cycle remains around 15%, and patients continue to face substantial economic and physical burdens.

Technical Approach

Implantation receptivity is believed to vary from one menstrual cycle to the next. BIA-UR takes the approach of measuring the intrauterine environment during the cycle in which embryo transfer is planned, providing a real-time assessment of receptivity at that point in time.

The Value We Aim to Deliver

By understanding the condition of each cycle, it may become possible to forgo embryo transfer in cycles where implantation is less likely, preserving valuable embryos for transfer in a more suitable cycle. By complementing conventional indicators such as blood hormone levels and ultrasound imaging, BIA-UR aims to help reduce the time, economic, and physical burden associated with fertility treatment.
